Course Title: Judaism: A Rational Approach – A 12-Lecture Exploration Instructor: Ariel Moyal Esq. Practical Aspects: This Class will be held through Zoom Video-Conferencing for 12 weeks on Tuesdays at 12.30pm EST (19.30 IL). The classes are recorded for those students who cannot make it on time or want to re-watch the class. Course Description: This 12-lecture course is based on Ariel Moyal’s Judaism: A Rational Approach, which presents Judaism as a rational and evidence-based system of thought. Students will explore the foundations of morality, the contrast between subjective and objective truth, the concept of “Divine Indications” (scientific knowledge, prophecy, and revelation), the Oral Law, the relationship of Judaism to other world religions, and the Jewish perspective on meaning, suffering, and morality. The course emphasizes critical thinking, textual analysis, and open discussion. It is designed for adult learners, community study groups, and academic contexts. Learning Objectives: By the end of the course, students will be able to: 1. Distinguish between subjective and objective approaches to morality and truth. 2. Identify and analyze “Divine Indications” as rational evidence for Divine authorship of the Torah. 3. Compare Judaism’s foundations with those of Christianity, Islam, and other religions. 4. Articulate Judaism’s perspective on life’s meaning, suffering, and morality. 5. Engage in critical discussions about faith, reason, and evidence.
