- What Are We Celebrating on Rosh Hashanah?
By Rabbi Moshe Bernstein Rosh Hashanah is one of the most important holidays (Sept. 16-17). It is the anniversary of the creation of Adam and Eve, and a day of judgment and coronation of G‑d as king. On the eve of Rosh Hashanah, the universe undergoes a kind of reset, where the energy of life is reduced to a minimal state. Mankind and all creatures in the world are judged by Heaven on this day. This is why we don't celebrate this holiday with extroverted parties. When there is judgment, it's a time of fear. On the other hand, there is a joyous aspect to this holiday, as this is a time of accepting the kingship of Hashem. Rosh Hashanah is a profound and significant moment in which the universe and time itself are renewed. It's a time for introspection and the coronation of the king of kings. It encourages individuals to let go of their ego and open up to the coronation associated with this holiday. This day marks the beginning of the High Holy Days. It is a time of reflection, repentance, and self-renewal. It's a time when a new cycle of creation and renewal begins. On this holiday, the entire year's abundance is given to the whole creation and each creature as well. A key subject associated with Rosh Hashanah is to "make yourself small." This means humbling oneself and recognizing that there is something greater and more significant than one's own ego or desires. By doing so, one can open up to the unlimited and connect with G-d. The Zohar says: Make yourself big, and you can’t contain anything; make yourself small, and you can contain the unlimited. For every Noahide, man, and woman, this day has a huge significance. Therefore, making proactive decisions regarding adding to the observance of the 7 commandments could benefit the entire year. He believes in making connections between the Jewish People and the Noahides worldwide in order to share and enhance the knowledge of the Torah's Universal Code for Humanity and fulfill Isaiah's Prophecy 11:9 " And the world will be filled with the knowledge of G-d as the waters cover the oceans". By Rabbi Moshe Perets CONSCIOUS ACCEPTANCE OF HASHEM’S SOVEREIGNTY Despite its uniqueness, the 25th of Elul is eclipsed by Rosh HaShanah. This is because the creation of man opened up a new and deeper relationship between G-d and the created world. Of all the beings in the physical and spiritual realms, man alone can choose to accept G-d’s sovereignty. Only his relationship with G-d stems from conscious decision and free will.[5] Though G-d creates and regulates all the other beings in the universe, they do not consciously accept this relationship. Their link with G-d flows from G-d’s creativity; it does not result from their own decision. With the creation of man, G-d introduced the potential for voluntary acceptance of His unity and active consent to His will. Chassidic thought illustrates the difference between G-d’s relationship with man and His relationship with the remainder of creation by contrasting two forms of absolute rule, tyranny and sovereignty. A tyrant exercises dominion without his subjects’ consent, by virtue of his might; the subjects of a king, even if he is an absolute ruler, may willingly accept his authority and seek his sovereignty. Unlike every other created being, man has the choice of acquiescing to G-d’s dominion or rebelling against it. He alone has been empowered to acknowledge the unity of G-d through his own thought processes, and to relate to Him as his sovereign. ROSH HASHANAH & THE PURPOSE OF CREATION Today the World was Born Rosh HaShanah recalls the creation of the world, as we see from the prayer,[1] “Today the world was born.” According to our Sages, however, the world was created on the 25th of Elul, so that Rosh HaShanah actually marks the sixth day of creation, the day on which G-d created man. Why do we commemorate the creation of man and not the creation of the whole world? This is especially strange, given that the creation of the world demonstrates G-d’s absolute power in His unique ability to create something from nothing.[2] Only G-d’s essence, free of all limitation, can bring about being from utter void. The 25th of Elul, the first day of the world’s existence, is further distinguished by being referred to in the Torah [3] as yom echad (“one day”), rather than yom rishon (“the first day”). The Torah thus indicates that on the first day of creation, G-d was “alone in His world.”[4] Though the entire created world already existed, it was not separate from its Creator; the world was one with G-d. MAKING HASHEM PART OF OUR WORLD Why must G-d’s sovereignty be consciously perceived by man? From G-d’s perspective, His unity with the world encompasses every facet of creation. Man is rarely able to conceive of G-d’s unity from this perspective. Why, then, should mere man’s awareness and recognition be of such importance? Our Sages teach that G-d created the world because He “desired a dwelling place in the lower worlds.” In order for this desire to be completely realized, the establishment of a dwelling place requires not only that G-dly energy be extended into those lowly realms, but also that those realms be aware of the G-dliness in their midst and accept it. Only then is G-d’s dwelling place in the lower worlds complete. Before man’s creation, G-dliness and the world appeared to be opposites; the world, from its own perspective, did not relate to the G-dly potential with which it is invested. Only with the creation of man did the possibility for an internalized awareness of G-d come into being. HASHEM PARTNER IN CREATION Man was created not only for the purpose of expressing unity with G-d in his own life; he was also given the potential to suffuse the entire world with an awareness of G-d’s unity. Adam, the first man, gave expression to this potential on the first day of his existence by addressing all of creation:[6] “Come, let us bow down; let us bend the knee before G-d our Maker.”[7] By imparting his superior relationship with G-d to the entire world, man becomes G-d’s partner in creation and contributes a necessary element to the world’s existence – a conscious union with G-d. This uniquely human perception of G-d’s pervasive unity makes Rosh HaShanah, the day of man’s creation, eclipse the 25th of Elul, for the potential for oneness with G-d that came into being with man’s creation overshadowed all previous levels of creation. DIVERSE PLATEAUS OF EXISTENCE The question, however, remains: Why do our Rosh HaShanah prayers proclaim that the world was formed on that date? Even if it is acknowledged that Rosh HaShanah takes precedence, it was on the 25th of Elul that the world was created. This question can be answered by reference to a point of Talmudic law… [an] object cannot be said to have [fully] come into being until it has been completed.[8] Certain objects may be thought of as complete at any one of a number of stages. Animal hides, for example, can be used at one stage as covers or blankets, or they can be further treated and refined and made into clothing…. The Mishnah[9] rules that the status of the hide is dependent upon its owner. If the owner would be expected to be content with the hide as a cover, the hide is [completed]. However, if the owner is a tanner who would ordinarily consider the hide to be unfinished at this stage and would be expected to further refine it in order to make a garment, it is [considered unfinished]. This halachah (Torah law) lends us a conception of the status of creation before the advent of man. The 25th of Elul and the following days of creation revealed awesome G-dly powers. These powers were, however, totally eclipsed by the creation of man, which revealed a deeper purpose of creation and a higher aspect of G-dliness, just as the animal hide can be transformed into a garment by a skilled tanner. The revelation occasioned by man’s creation caused the world’s prior existence to be considered unfinished. Through the creation of man, G-d established a new definition of existence, and according to this new definition, the world did not previously exist. The anniversary of man’s creation can therefore be considered the anniversary of creation as a whole. “AS THE WATERS COVER THE OCEAN BED” The ultimate state of unity between G-d and the world will be expressed in the Era of the Redemption, when “the world will be filled with the knowledge of G-d as the waters cover the ocean bed.”[10] This will be accomplished through man’s efforts. The revelation of G-dliness in the Era of the Redemption depends on our present endeavors to perceive and express the G-dliness invested within the world. By developing a conscious bond with G-d and extending that relationship into every element of our existence, we bring closer the time when that connection will blossom forth into complete fulfillment in the Era of the Redemption. May this be realized in the immediate future. [Are we regarded] as children or as servants? If as children, have mercy upon us as a father has mercy upon [his] children; if as servants, our eyes are turned to You until You will be gracious to us and bring forth our judgment as the light, O Awesome and Holy One.” [2] Explanation by Ramban (Nachmanides) on Genesis 1:1. As Rashi (on Genesis 1:14) explains, on the first day of existence G-d created the entire universe from nothing (“ex nihilo”), bringing all the components of heaven and earth into being from absolute nothingness. On the following days, the days on which the Torah describes various entities as coming into being, G-d merely “formed” them, making new entities from “existing” substance by giving them distinct characteristics and locations. He alone judges all created beings. And All Believe He is the true Judge. He is called “I will Be What I will Be” [Ex. 3:14]. And All Believe He was, He is, and He will be. And All Believe He remembers the Covenant. He apportions life to all living beings. And All Believe He is eternal. He is good and does good to the wicked and to the good. And All Believe He is good to all. He knows the inclination of creatures. And All Believe He has formed them in the womb. He is all powerful and contains them all. And All Believe He is all-powerful. He, the Omnipotent, abides in mystery, in shadow. And All Believe He is One Alone. He enthrones kings, and Kingship is His. And All Believe He is King of the world. He guides every generation with lovingkindness. And All Believe He preserves kindness. He is patient and He overlooks [the actions of] the rebellious. And All Believe He pardons forever. He is the Most High, and His eye is directed to those who fear Him. And All Believe He answers silent [whispered] prayer. He opens the gate for those who knock in repentance. And All Believe His hand is open. He waits for the evildoer, and desires that he be cleared of guilt. And All Believe He is righteous and upright. His wrath is brief and He is forbearing. And All Believe He is hard to anger. He is merciful and causes mercy to precede wrath. And All Believe He is easily appeased. He is immutable, and treats small and great alike. And All Believe He is the righteous Judge. He is perfect and acts with perfection to those who are sincere. And All Believe His work is perfect! - What is the Beginning of Our Deeds?
By Rabbi Moshe Perets Kabbalat HaMalchut Receiving of Kingship Prayer The following Prayer may be said to evoke and Receive God's Kingship over us (during the Eve and the Day of Rosh Hashana) O God, Your Kingship is exalted, Your throne is established with loving-kindness, and You are seated on it in truth. It is true that You are the Judge, the One who presents evidence, the Knower and the Witness, who records and seals, who counts and reckons, and You remember all things that are forgotten. You open the Book of Remembrance and it reads itself; every person’s signature is in it… All created beings pass before You, one by one, like a flock of sheep. As a shepherd examines his flock, so do You cause to pass before You every living soul, and You count, reckon and are mindful of them, and You allocate the fixed portion for the needs of all Your creatures, and inscribe the verdict of their judgment. But a person’s repentance, prayer and charity avert the strictness of the decree! For as is Your Name so is Your praise. You are slow to anger and easy to pacify, for You do not desire the death of one deserving death, but that he return from his sinful path and live. And even until the day of his death You wait for him; if he will but repent, You will welcome him at once. Truly, You are their Creator and You know their evil inclination, for they are but flesh and blood. A person’s origin is dust and his end is unto dust. He earns his bread at the risk of his life. He is likened to a broken potsherd, to withering grass, to a fading flower, to a passing shadow, to a vanishing cloud, to a blowing wind, to dust that scatters and to a fleeting dream. - Live Interview with Rabbi Michael Skobac on the Even HaEzer Live Course Starting on 15.10
With Rabbi Michael Skobac The Even HaEzer – Expertise and Qualification in Marital Laws & Noahide Wedding Officiant “The Precious Stone of Helping” is the third part of the Online Noahide Yeshiva Study Cycles on the Code of Law for Noahides, the compendium of Torah Law for Gentiles applicable today, by Rabbi Moshe Weiner in 2012 (5573). The origin of the name “Even HaEzer” is in Parashat Tetzaveh, which describes the garments of the “Kohen Gadol,” the High Priest, which included a breastplate on which there were set columns [“Turim”] of precious stones, and the word for “stone” or “precious stone” in Hebrew is “Even.” The first woman, Chava, is described in Parashat Bereshit as “Eizer K’negdo,” a “Helper appropriate for Him.” The word for “Helper” is “Eizer.” Combining the two gives “Even HaEzer,” “The Precious Stone of Helping,” describing the beneficial role a wife plays for her husband, and indicating clearly that marriage is the most desirable state for a human being. “Even HaEzer” for Noahides contains 105 Laws dealt within 7 chapters. They include, among others, the Mitzvah of Marriage, forbidden partners and acts, How a Man acquires a Wife, Mutual Obligations between Husband and Wife, and a discussion of the Laws of Divorce, the way to dissolve a Marriage if that becomes necessary. The basic Marital Laws and Noahide Wedding Officiant Ordination, “Even HaEzer” determines that the Noahide can observe Torah Marital laws and may give advice in his community in matters regarding Shalom Bait - Marital Peace. The mastery of this Section of the “Noahide Code,” makes the person: “Qualified to Implement & Counsel in Noahide Marriage.” To Register and Join the Live Lectures: By Rabbi Moshe Perets Rabbi Moshe Perets is the President of the Noahide Academy of Israel, Founder and Executive Director of NoahideAcademy.org, the world’s largest Noahide informational website. - Reflections on the Orach Chaim and Yoreh Deah Courses for Noahides
By Jane and Basil Andrews from Malasya Having found the God of Avraham, Isaac and Jacob, one will naturally want to seek answers to a host of questions. How do I know God? How do I address the Master of the universe? What does it mean to fulfil a certain commandment? How can I improve my character? How do I pray and repent? What does it mean that God is One – what is the unity of HaShem? How can I understand Tanakh better? If you have these questions and more, you are not alone. The Noahide Academy of Israel formulated a series of courses viz the Orach Chaim and Yoreh Deah courses for Noahides(with a third course, Even HaEzer, on the horizon) which provided the much-needed answers to our questions. Jews are called to be a "light to the nations". Therefore, it only makes sense for the nations to learn Torah from the Jewish Rabbis / Teachers who are the experts, lest we, God forbid, create a new religion. We do not want to be like the blind leading the blind or we might, God forfend, end up in the proverbial ditch; misled, misinformed and miss the mark altogether. HaShem has given the Torah to the Jewish people at Mount Sinai through Moses. Subsequently, through the tradition of the Jewish sages, the truth of the Torah has been transmitted from one generation to another. We, the Bnei Noah (non-Jews) cannot under any pretext think that we have the truth and know the truth without learning from the Jewish people regardless of how honest our intentions may be. To compound the situation, our Bible texts are translated versions of the Torah/Tanakh in various languages, inevitably resulting in some departure from the original Hebrew text. Any translated version at its best, can never hope to measure up to the original Hebrew text as meaning and intent may be lost in translation. Hence, in order to align ourselves to the truth of the Torah, we need proper guidance from Torah scholars. The Orach Chaim and Yoreh Deah courses were specially tailored for Noahides to lay a firm foundation in Torah observance. Both courses were carefully structured for the Teachers / Rabbis to impart to us spiritual truths through a systematic curriculum. The courses provided clarity and understanding to enable us to live our lives responsibly as we are all accountable to HaShem. Both courses helped us to have a better and clearer grasp of Torah principles supported by credible sources as our point of reference. Throughout all the study sessions, we were encouraged to ask questions to clear whatever doubts, uncertainties, misunderstandings or preconceived notions that we might have had. In short, the Orach Chaim and Yoreh Deah courses provided us with a much-needed platform to springboard our pursuit of Torah learning towards the fulfilment of the seven Noahide commandments and all their components both on a theoretical as well as on a practical level. The main thrust of the courses is to impart to us that the Master of the universe commanded Adam, the first man, on the day of his creation in Genesis(Bereishit) 2:16, “.. and the Lord God commanded the man( Adam)..” God commanded six precepts to Adam : 1. the prohibition against worshipping false gods 2. the prohibition against cursing the Name of God 3. the prohibition against murder 4. the prohibition against specific forbidden sexual relations 5. the prohibition against theft 6. the commandment to establish laws and courts and the seventh precept was added when God commanded Noah “not to eat flesh with its life, which is its blood” in Genesis/Bereishit 9:4; 7. the prohibition against eating flesh that was removed from a living animal1 Non-Jews who observe these seven universal laws are generally termed Noahides or Bnei Noah(children of Noah). Anyone who accepts upon himself or herself the fulfilment of these seven mitzvot/commandments and is precise in their observance is considered as one of “the pious among the nations” or chassid umos ha olam and will merit a share in the world to come as well as in the resurrection of the dead, together with Bnei Israel(children of Israel)2. This is only applicable if we keep the commandments because God commanded them in the Torah and not due to our intellectual or emotional justifications. There are a lot more extensions to these 7 commandments and to learn and internalize them, we should attach ourselves to proper rabbis who can guide us in the truth of the Torah. We extend our deep gratitude to Rabbi Moshe Perets and his esteemed team comprising Rabbi Baruch Simcha, Rabbi Assi Harel and Rabbi Moshe Bernestein. Most of all, we are truly thankful to our HaKadosh Baruch Hu, Blessed Be He, for the merit to learn Torah and grow in the path of righteousness. May we all merit to make the world a dwelling place for HaShem, study Torah in a permitted way under Jewish guidance, fulfil the seven mitzvot for Noahides, pray, refine our character and perform acts of goodness and kindness. - Ki Tavo Why the Curses& Blessings
In our Torah portion, we find the "curses and blessings". Each curse is associated with a specific action that goes against G-d's command. On the other hand, there are many blessings when we fulfill G-d’s will. In these verses, also many Noahide laws are expressed. Idol worship: Condemning the creation and worship of idols or images. Such actions are considered an abomination as they stray from the belief in one G-d. Not to steal: Moving a neighbor's landmark would unjustly change property boundaries. It relates to the prohibition of stealing land. The prohibition against stealing land applies to all individuals. This prohibition is even more severe in the land of Israel where stealing land from Jews is subject to harsh punishment according to Torah law. The land of Israel holds a special place as the Promised Land, given by G-d to the Israelites. This land is a divine inheritance and a sacred place. Establishing courts of justice. Avoiding distorting justice and fair judgment for vulnerable individuals. In each case, the curse is directed at actions that undermine the principles of justice that are integral to a moral and just society. Adultery: Engaging in incestuous relationships, specifically lying with one's father's wife. Engaging in bestiality, lying with animals. Committing incest with sisters, from the mother's side. These acts represent various forms of sexual misconduct, highlighting the importance of maintaining healthy and appropriate relationships within families and communities. Only by following the 7 Noahide laws can ensure the path of righteousness and the significance of living in accordance with G-d's laws and making vessels to accept the blessings of Hashem. Following the Noahide Code is all about opening ourselves up to blessings. Just as a vessel must be clean and well-prepared to hold precious liquid, this way we attract blessings into our lives. This way, we can harness the infinite impact of the Noahide laws to shape a brighter future for humanity and bring about redemption. - How Did a Bulgarian and a Mexican Noahide Got Married?!
By Teodor and Felissa Todorov "I was born in Bulgaria in a non-religious family." : says Felissa McDonald The general culture in Bulgaria is a ch'ristian-orthodox one, but after 50 years of communism and atheism most people are not very observant, and especially most young people look at organized religions very skeptically. In my family all kinds of religious concepts and rituals were treated as something strange or even crazy and were mostly made fun of. From a young age I felt a yearning for spiritual significance and connection with the Director of the World. Probably every person has such feelings instinctively, since we are all children of the same G-d. But I did not know how to build such a connection, nor how to apply any religious concepts in my everyday life. When I was about 18 years old, I moved to Germany in order to study at the University. Being far away from home, I felt the courage and deep essential need to start my spiritual journey. I decided then to start looking for G-d in the Bible and for a way to connect to Him. After I had read the Bible for the first time, I slowly began to change myself. I separated from my environment and friends, from an empty fragmented life and started living in seclusion for several years. I started gathering all information I could about the different religions around the world. My logic was, that since G-d allowed that so many religions exist in the world, none of them could be alone the right one, but there should be a spark of truth in each one of them. Of course, now I know this logic to be false and dangerous. After 4 years of intensive spiritual searching, G.d had mercy on me and one day i decided to try to live according to the Jewish teaching, the Torah. Later i found out that the exact day i made this decision happened to be the day of Shavuoth, the day the Jewish people received and accepted the Torah from G-d on Mount Sinai. After the decision was made, everything happened very fast. I started searching on the internet for Torah-resources. A little bit later I found the website of chabad.org (this happened on another special date Gimmel Tammuz – third day of the Jewish month, during july). It was time to read for the first time the Torah with the commentary of Rashi, suddenly many questions were answered, i was able to understand the meaning of many places in the Bible which had been a mystery for me before. Slowly everything was starting to make sense, I was starting to see a bigger and harmonious picture. I made contact with the local Jewish community and started attending the services in the local Synagogue. The Jews accepted me very friendly and warm, for which I’m very thankful. At that time I hadn’t yet heard about the 7 Laws of Noah, I din’t know that there was a difference between Jews and Non-Jews, that G-d has prepared different missions and had different expectations from His Jewish and Non-Jewish children. Then I stumbled upon another website of AskNoah.org and a whole new dimension of knowledge was reveled to me. I started reading the materials there, I started asking questions on the online-forum. Still, about 5 years passed until I personally met a real Rabbi for the first time. Thanks to the modern technologies until then I was able to have contact via internet with observant Jews, devoted to spreading the truth of Torah to the world. My mentor and teacher is Rabbi Dr. Michael Schulman of Jerusalem, Israel, Director of AskNoah Intl. He guided me through the years, helping me gain more and more knowledge about my mission in life. Later he arranged a meeting with who would became my future wife, Felissa, who was also an observant Noahide at that time, and continues to be. With the Help of Heaven, we hope to continue the study Torah online, with the Noahide Academy of Israel and Ask Noah Intl. and to maintain an intensive contact with our Noahide friends around the world. Hopefully soon there will be a strong and thriving Noahide community in Germany as well. It is our mission and obligation to spread out the knowledge of G-d’s Will. As the Lubavitcher Rebbe said it so many times, the spreading of the Noahide Laws is an important and crucial effort on our generation as part of the time we are living in to usher universal peace and happiness… “when there will be no more pain, no more war, no more sickness no more sorrow…” (Rambam in Laws of Kings) and “when we will all call upon the Name of G-d to serve Him in one purpose.” (Zephania 3:9) “On that day G-d will be One and His Name One.” (Zechariah 14:9) . May it be speedily in our days! Amen! - Why is So Important for Noahides to Study Marital Laws?
By Rabbi Moshe Bernestein "It is not good for the man to be alone; I will make a fitting helper for him." (Genesis 2:18) The verse is spoken by G-d, and it highlights the need for marital partnership for life. This verse is part of the creation narrative in the book of Genesis, describing the origin of humanity and the creation of the first human, Adam. The verse reflects G-d's design for humanity and involves connection and relationships between a man and a woman as they are created by G-d. This is an essential theme within the Noahide code. The institution of marriage has undoubtedly undergone some pressure due to various trends in the western society. This has challenged the traditional nuclear family model often associated with marriage. But despite this, we see a strengthening in the traditional concept of marriage. Non-traditional family structures, such as single-parent families and families with same-sex couples, have proven to be unstable and most importantly they are against the Fourth Commandment of G-d in the Seven Noahide Commandments. Marriage is definitely reinforced by the observance of the Noahide laws as a foundation for proper behavior in general and marital behavior in particular. It would emphasize that seeking a partner who also values these principles can contribute to a strong and lasting marriage. The family and community play a role in Noahide relationships. An individual or a community leader should learn about the significance of pre-marital counseling or education to address potential challenges, align expectations, and establish a solid foundation for marriage. How does this issue of marriage apply to modern day Noahides? The prohibition against adultery is considered one of the seven Noahide laws, as it falls under the broader category of maintaining moral behavior. Therefore, Noahides are expected to study and be aware of all the details of this issue as part of the Noahide laws. These prohibitions against adultery and the severe penalties associated with them highlight the importance of maintaining the sanctity of marriage and fidelity within the family. The Torah places a strong emphasis on moral behavior, and these laws are intended to guide in living righteous lives according to G-d's as expressed by the 7 Noahide commandments. - What is the Month of Elul?
The month of Elul in the Hebrew Calendar is 29 days of preparation for Rosh HaShanah. Rosh HaShanah is G-d’s annual day of judgment for every person. A Noahide should use these days to look back and evaluate his or her conduct over the past year. In 2023 the 1st of Elul begins after sundown on Wednesday 16th of August - 30th of Menachem Av and 1st of Ellul on Friday 18.08. Ellul is an entire month devoted to examination of our conduct in the previous year and preparation for change and progress in the year to come. Like a storekeeper who closes his operations from time to time to take inventory, this is a month dedicated to taking stock of our conduct and seeing how it can be improved. Introspection, however, does not always lead to positive results. On the contrary, sometimes, it just makes us heavy, without propelling us forward. Introspection is valuable when we have a purpose. Then our thoughts are directed to defining our goals and purpose more clearly and seeing whether or not our deeds are aligned with these purpose. For when a person feels purpose and direction, he is charged with energy and feels the need to accomplish and achieve. He wants to see the goals in which he believes and identifies to be manifested in actual life. Therefore he is both active and reflective. He desires to do, but wants his actions to be constructive and fruitful. So from time to time, he appraises his activities and sees whether they are aligned with his ultimate objective or whether it is necessary to redirect his focus. When we set aside time to review [and correct] our conduct with this focus during the month of Elul, we will ensure ourselves a ketivah va’chatimah tovah. [This is the Hebrew phrase which means “written and sealed for good” – in G-d’s Book of Life when He judges us on Rosh HaShanah.]… By Rabbi Dr. Michael Shulman Rabbi Dr. Michael Schulman is the Director of Ask Noah International, a partner of the Noahide Academy. - Mase, New Member of the Noahide Academy of Israel
Hi, my name is Mase R. Molina. My story of coming to Torah starts relatively recently. I am currently 35 years old, and I was raised ch'ristian. A few years back some of mt family members started questioning it more as some things didn't add up and some parts of the "Old Testament" (Tanakh) idnicated that G-d is not a man. So then a friend showed us a couple videos from Jews for Judaism, and it made so much more sense. The more we started learning, the more logical and straight forward Judaism seemed. My goal was simply to find out the truth and see where it led and to have a relationship with G-d. As I learned more, I saw that Judaism taught that people do not need to convert in order to have a relationship with G-d, and that if one followed the Noahide laws (an eternal covenant with humanity) that they are considered righteous among the nations. I am still learning more and am trying to become the best version of myself. 😃 By Mase Molina, Texas, USA
- Jane and Basil Andrews, The Path of Return
By Jane Andrews, a Faithfull Bat Noah from Malasya Our journey of return, back to HaShem, His Torah and the Jewish People. Shalom to those who are reading this article! I have been an observant Noahide for close to 10 years now. In the past couple of years, my husband and I have been learning with the Noahide Academy and taking weekly classes from Rabbi Moshe Perets. I would like to share our story on how we became observant Noahides – our journey from darkness to light. I will keep the long story short. We were fervent ch'ristians for decades and sufficiently well-versed in the ch'ristian bible. As leaders in the local church, we led a young youth group. My husband would from time to time be scheduled to deliver Sunday sermons. In preparing to teach, we often sought the Hebrew translation for certain words or phrases to see what was the original intent of the verses or passages. Over time, we came to discover many eye-opening revelations. Our excitement in learning the Hebrew text was obviously stumped by our inability to read Hebrew. Although our home library was stocked with easily over a thousand Christian books and references, it could not satisfy our deep hunger to know more. As the Internet became increasingly accessible, we began searching for more information online. The more we researched, the more discrepancies we discovered in the New Testament. The so-called truths just did not line up with the Torah. As this is not the platform, I will not list them here but even if one verse contradicts another, it is already enough to set the alarm bells ringing. The Torah is Truth and no one is allowed to add or to subtract from it. There were so many questions and we struggled to come to terms with the fact that our faith was being challenged to the core. We prayed for G-d’s direction and intervention. But where does one look for answers? One simply needed to go to the source. G-d revealed Himself to the Jews, so naturally, that was our next direction. It is recorded in Zechariah 8:23, “Thus said HaShem, Master of Legions: In those days it will happen that ten men, of all the languages of the nations will take hold, they will take hold of the corner of the garment of a Jewish man, saying, ‘Let us go with you, for we have heard that G-d is with you.’” We decided that was precisely what we should do. But where do we start? We prayed and asked G-d to show us and lead us. We needed to take the first step, trusting that in His infinite chesed /kindness, G-d will point us to the path that we should take. Subsequently, our family made the life-changing decision to leave church, leave christianity and follow Judaism. In essence, to be observant Noahides, to learn Torah truths and to keep the Seven Noahide Commandments. Apart from learning from a few notable rabbis, we also registered for a course to learn from the Noahide Nations. Additionally, we accessed a wealth of resources from Chabad, Jews for Judaism and Divine Information. If we endeavour to search for the Truth, G-d will most certainly assist and guide us because that is exactly what the Almighty G-d wants us to do – to return to Him; to worship the G-d of Avraham, Yitzhak and Yaakov. Thus, began our journey to wholly accept, embrace and uphold the yoke of the Kingship of Heaven. A journey of return to Ribono Shel Olam, the Master of the Universe. A journey to be counted as Chassidei Umos HaOlam, the righteous of the nations. A journey walking in the truth of the Torah, performing acts of righteousness and kindness, and refining our character. Thank you, HaShem! Baruch HaShem! Written by: Jane Andrews Island of Borneo

- The Weekly Torah Portion: Shoftim Judges and Prophets in Our Generation
By Rabbi Moshe Bernstein This week's Torah portion discusses the role of judges, prophets, and spiritual advisors, particularly in the context of the present era as it relates to the anticipation of the coming of Mashiach and the final Redemption. Judges and Prophets are not just historical figures; rather, they hold relevance in the present. The prophecy of restoring judges and advisers from former times is being fulfilled in the current age before the arrival of the Mashiach. The presidents of the Chabad Hasidic movement have exemplified the qualities of both judges and prophets. They are providing directives about the nature of the present time, indicating that significant changes are about to be happening, symbolized by phrases such as "all the buttons have been polished," signifying a state of readiness for the most significant event—the final redemption. The world is at a crucial point in history, close to its transformation into a perfect state. The present era is significant in this context, and everyone should serve as a guide, helping their followers prepare for this transformative event. About forty years ago, the Rebbe called on all the nations of the world to fulfill the seven Noahide commandments. Since this call, the matter has been published to thousands and millions of Gentiles around the world, and in recent years, there has even been incredible growth in the special global movement that includes Gentiles who conduct their lives around the seven Noahide commandments. Archaeologist Professor Wendell Jones is considered one of the pioneers in the modern Bnei Noah movement, and he was highly encouraged by the Rebbe 33 years ago. On many occasions, he was proud of his meeting with the Rebbe during the distribution of dollars in 1990 and the Rebbe's magnificent words to him: "Wendall Jones, you are doing the most important work in the world." Now, after many years and much growth in the Noahide movement, we can see why this encouragement was so prophetic.
